Sodium Thiosulfate Pentahydrate PURE – 500g

Sodium Thiosulfate Pentahydrate (Na₂S₂O₃·5H₂O), PURE grade, is one of the fundamental chemicals used in silver-based photography. Since the early days of photography, sodium thiosulfate has been used as a fixing agent, removing unexposed silver halides from light-sensitive materials and making the photographic image permanent.

It is suitable for use in historical photographic processes, including salted paper printing, as well as in traditional silver-based photography.

Why use pure sodium thiosulfate?

Modern ready-made photographic fixers usually contain not only a fixing agent but also additional chemicals that affect the pH, stability and performance of the solution. Formulations designed for modern photographic materials are not always suitable for historical photographic processes.

Many historical techniques require a fixer prepared according to a specific formula or a sodium thiosulfate solution of a defined concentration. Preparing the solution yourself gives you control over its composition and allows it to be adapted to the requirements of a particular photographic process.
