The second edition of The Then & Now photographic competition is not only an overview of art created by artists using technology from the very beginnings of photography, making prints with the use of techniques now described as special, historical or alternative but, first of all, an attempt to reach the very roots of the medium and redefine the role that alternative processes play in modern photography.

All photographers who use manual historical processes such as wetplate kolodion, gum bichromate or albumen print as well as artists using more modern processes such as polaroid transfer as well as those who decided to make pinhole photography their medium are invited to take part in the competition.

All submissions will be juried in an open session by a panel of eminent photographers, experts both on issues of aesthetics and photographic technology: Dr hab. Witold Jurkiewicz, Adam Mazur, Małgorzata Taraszkiewicz Zwolicka and Radosław Brzozowski. All those interested in alternative photography are invited to observe the work of the jury. The overall winner, apart from the grand prix, will receive a financial prize of 3000 zloties (approx 700 euro). Every photographer whose work is selected for the exhibition will have a unique opportunity to present their work at the Gdansk Gallery of Photography, part of the National Museum and to have it featured in the exhibition catalogue.
